Inspired by the 1960s SG Special, the Gibson SG Classic Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups re-creates the look and sound of the most influential guitar in both Britain and the U.S. during the psychedelic era. It has the original all-mahogany body, dual P-90 pickups, and a bound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays.A Little SG History In 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar". Though Les Paul's name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, and Angus Young.

The Gibson Korina SG Standard is a limited edition reissue of the early '60s SG Les Paul Standard electric guitar. This Gibson Custom Shop guitar is made to historic SG/LP standard specs, but is constructed with exotic korina instead of the more common mahogany. The Korina SG has a clear, cutting tone for perfect chordal clarity and is both beautiful and lightweight. The SG body style is lighter in weight than a standard Les Paul and also provides full access to the upper treble register of the guitar. With a slim taper neck profile, Gibson SG guitars also have a reputation for being very fast and highly playable. Other features include Burstbucker pickups, vintage Kluson tulip style tuners, and an ABR-1 bridge and stopbar tailpiece.

The SG originally was intended as a Les Paul redesign and addressed what many considered the 2 main issues players had with the Les Paul: weight and upper fretboard access. Les Paul himself didn't like it so the Les Paul stuck to its original style and the new Les Paul design was renamed the SG Standard. Even though Les Paul didn't approve of it, countless rockers loved it and made it one of all-time hard rockin' favorites. This is the early '60s deluxe model. Like all VOS (Vintage Original Spec) Series instruments, the SG Custom VOS is handcrafted for comfort and playability in the Gibson Custom Shop. The construction, neck profile, hardware, and electronics are period accurate, and a special nitrocellulose finish treatment gives it the patina of a gently aged vintage guitar. Includes Gibson Custom Shop case, a certificate of authenticity, and custom care kit.
